How often should I clean the filter in my air conditioner?
The filter should be cleaned or replaced regularly. During the heavy months,
change it once a month.
My unit is not cooling.
If the filter is clean and everything is running, you may be low on refrigerant
or have dirty evaporator coils. Also check to make sure all of your vents
are open.
My air conditioner is not running.
Be sure the thermostat is switched to Cool , the Fan is switched to Auto,
and adjusted low enough to be turning on. Be sure the filter is clean.
If all these are in place and the unit still is not running the problem
could be in the condenser or air handler, and you need to call for service.
There's water leaking out of my inside unit.
If you do not see ice build-up on the larger copper tubing (covered with
a black, spongy insulation) when you run your system, then you probably
have a clogged drain line. A clogged drain line is usually caused by algae
build-up inside the drain line.
Keeping heat in during the winter.
To save on heating bills follow these tips.
- Close you chimney's damper.
- Replace forced-air heating filters monthly.
- Make sure nothing is blocking the heating vents.
- On sunny days, open your shades to let heat build up. Close them
at night.
Inside unit is running but the outside unit is not.
Check to see if the A/C breaker is tripped. Find the breaker for the
air conditioner. Turn it completely "off" even if it appears to be "off",
then turn it back on again. If it trips again, leave it alone and call
for service. Another possibility is that the thermostat wiring is broken.
My heating system smells when I first start it up in the winter.
This smell is caused by dust that had built up in your heating ducts during
the year. When the first warm air of the season heats the ducts...the
warmed dust becomes airborne and gives off an odor.
